Mercury

Environmental mercury pollution comes from factories, manufacturing plants, incinerators and mining. It enters the environment through a variety of sources.

It then bio-accumulates in tissue and is most abundant in top predatory fish. New FDA regulations are frequently written to protect the public from the dangers of mercury in fish, both wild and farmed.

Even more dangerous is the mercury vapor that leaches off silver fillings, and the mercury preservative found in vaccines and flu-shots. Mercury vapor easily enters the bloodstream and travels to the brain. It has been linked to many diseases including numerous forms of dementia.

Cadmium

Cadmium is used in the plating, plastics, manufacturing and battery industries. It is typically released during the process of purifying another metal like zinc, lead or copper.

The largest potential sources are food and cigarette smoke, as cadmium is abundant in fertilizers.

Cadmium is a "known human carcinogen" and has been linked to diseases such as kidney failure.

Scientists have discovered that cadmium is an estrogen-mimic and may be responsible for the dramatic rises in incidences of breast and prostate cancer in the US.

Lead

Lead pollution from many industries is from abundant in dust, soils and water.

Symptoms of lead poisoning include irritability, lethargy, headaches and loss of motor coordination.

The fluoridation of drinking water is known to increase the absorption of contaminants in the water, including lead.

In a study at Dartmouth College, scientists revealed a direct relationship between amount of water fluoridation and incidences of developmental disorders and crime.

Heavy Metal Pollution

The top 3 most abundant heavy metals in the environment are mercury, cadmium and lead. Mercury toxicity is second only to Uranium.

A 2001 study titled 'WASTE LANDS: THE THREAT OF TOXIC FERTILIZER' and published by CALPIRG revealed the following
  • Between 1990 and 1995, 270 million pounds of toxic waste were spread on U.S. farmlands as fertilizer

  • 29 out of 29 brands of fertilizers randomly tested, were found to contain hazardous levels of 22 different metals including mercury, cadmium and lead

  • For 13 of the 22 metals, the amounts measured in the fertilizers exceeded the maximum levels allowed at Hazardous Treatment Landfills

An outline of the current administration's stance on pollution:

  • The chlorine manufacturing industry uses 100 tons of mercury every year. New EPA rules deliberately fail to account for 65 tons of mercury released into the environment by this industry

  • The EPA is moving to cripple the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act, at the behest of the White House

  •  4  5 high-ranking EPA officials have publicly resigned in protest against the current administration policies

  • The current administration is attempting to shut out the public from official policy review processes

Protection

Fortunately, the body has a built in mechanism, Cellular Glutathione, that automatically responds to the presence of these heavy metals in the cells.

Detoxica™ increases cellular glutathione production.

Scientists are saying:
  • "Thus, in response to Hg(0) vapor exposure, the expression of the MT gene and various GST (Glutathione-s-transferase) genes is activated in non pregnant and pregnant rats. Activation of these genes could be part of a defensive response directed at decreasing renal mercury toxicity, and may help divert the metal away from the fetus." (Source)
  • "The findings indicate that tissue glutathione-dependent enzymes as well as other antioxidant enzymes function in protection against Cd(2+)[cadmium] toxicity and that these antioxidants provide a first line of defense against Cd(2+)..." (Source)
  • "The Cd treatments also caused a marked increase in the levels of GSH (glutathione) and cysteine in both the root and shoot tissues, suggesting that Cd may activate the GSH biosynthesis ..."(Source)
  • "Lead (Pb) is a highly neurotoxic agent that causes functional and structural abnormalities in the brain. Glutathione (GSH) is a main molecule involved in the protection mechanisms against Pb itself and against reactive oxygen species generated by the metal ... Generally, activation of the glutathione system observed shortly after Pb treatment suggests the protective response of the brain to toxic insult. ..." (Source)
